Welcoming NHS Doctor Dr Kemi to the Luna Daily Collective
We are so excited to welcome Dr. Kemi to the Luna Daily Medical Collective.
Dr. Kemi is a London-based NHS doctor with a serious love for all things skincare and body care. We sat down with Kemi to get to know her on a human level.
Tell us about you. How has the journey been to becoming a junior doctor?
Hello there! I'm Dr. Kemi, a super passionate junior doctor who loves to inject fun and relatability into medicine. My journey to becoming a doctor has been filled with late-night study sessions, gallons of coffee, a few tears, but most importantly, countless rewarding moments. The feeling you get when you can make a difference in someone's life, even in the tiniest of ways, is what makes all those sleepless nights worth it. The journey has taught me patience, resilience, and the true meaning of dedication.
Why have you joined the Luna Daily collective?
I joined Luna Daily because I believe in what they stand for: making skincare accessible for everyone and removing the shame and awkwardness associated with the body and vulva. I love that Luna Daily is all about debunking the myths around body care and providing clear, concise, and accurate information. It’s exciting to to be a part of a movement that helps women feel more comfortable in their own skin.
What does a typical week in the life of being Dr Kemi involve?
Oh, where do I start? There's no such thing as a typical week for me, which is part of the fun! I balance my time between hospital shifts, social media, revising for exams and creating skincare articles online. In the hospital, I'll be doing rounds, working in clinic, attending to patients on call, and always learning something new. Outside of the hospital, I spend my time researching, writing articles, and creating content to help people understand their skin better.
How did you become interested in skin and body care?
I became interested in skin and body care during my medical school years. I saw patients who were struggling with skin conditions on their bodies and not knowing where to turn. I noticed that there was so much shame associated with the body and how it affected the confidence and overall wellbeing of many patients. I realised that skin health is so much more than vanity—it’s about overall health and feeling good about yourself. I felt a strong desire to help people understand and take care of their skin better, and this passion has led me to where I am today.
What is your body care routine?
My body care routine is all about simplicity and consistency. I start my day with a gentle exfoliating body wash, to help manage things like KP and to smooth out the skin. I followed this up with a good moisturiser to keep my skin hydrated throughout the day. I always apply sunscreen on exposed body parts before heading out, even on cloudy days, which is especially important to prevent body hyperpigmentation. In the evening, at least twice a week, I’ll use a body retinol to speed up skincare turnover. And once a week, I indulge in a relaxing bath with a good bath bomb or salts. But most importantly, I listen to my body and adjust my routine based on its needs. After all, our bodies are the best guides for what they need!
