Dr. Cheruba Prabakar is a US-based board certified OB-GYN and nationally certified menopause practitioner. She treats women across a range of conditions from heavy periods to endometriosis, and infertility.

Cheruba, tell us a little bit about you… what was your journey to becoming an OB-GYN?
I always knew I wanted to pursue a career in medicine - the endless intellectual excitement combined with the very deep and intimate human connection had me sold. I never wanted to be an OB-GYN though (don’t ask me why - just a field that didn’t appeal to me). That was….until I did my medical school rotations. I LOVED the specialty and truly felt that it called me. I didn’t look back. I trained in New York and now practice in the bay area in California.
I embrace the medical, social, and technological advancements that make my job truly exciting. I love what I do and am constantly looking to serve my patients.
We love what you do too! So, what does your typical week ‘in office’ look like?
Something I love about my specialty is that no two days are the same. Every week is a combination of seeing patients in the office, performing complex surgeries in the operating room, and occasionally delivering babies. I see patients from ages 10 to 97 and help them through various medical issues like managing abnormal pap smears, infertility, abnormal bleeding, fibroids, pelvic pain, and menopause.
In my new practice, I really get to spend time with patients and get to know them beyond the clinical ailment they present with.
Here at Luna Daily we are passionate about supporting women at every life-stage , we understand that in the US you’re a nationally certified menopause practitioner, can you chat through what this involves?
Many women all over the world are suffering through their menopausal years, unnecessarily. Honestly, we didn’t get a lot of education about menopause during our training years. Yet, there is a huge need and this phase of life must be normalised and discussed. This led me to pursue an extra certification in menopause which involves passing a national exam through the North American Menopause Society.
I am not afraid to prescribe menopause hormone therapy (if it’s right for the individual) and discuss the various nuances with patients. Many patients do seek me out for this particular expertise and I love helping them have a better quality of life.
What are your top tips for maintaining our female health
1) Eat well and exercise daily
2) Don’t use products on your skin that are harsh or contain synthetic chemicals These types of products can be irritating and can cause infection
3) Get enough sleep
Outside of supporting your patients to live their best lives, what do you get up to? We hear you’re a busy Mum and TikTok star in the making!
I live in the bay area of California with my husband, three little kids, and 2 cats! I enjoy working out, eating good food (sushi is my favourite!), and like taking walks through the redwoods. I have become an advocate for women and aim to share my medical knowledge through simple messages and you can find me on social media–across Instagram TikTok, and YouTube! I also love traveling and New York city is one of my all time favourites!
What is your favourite empowering quote that you’d like to share with our Luna Daily community?
I love this one by Neale Walsh. “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” It inspires me to push, discover, and DO.
Lastly, what does being a woman mean to you?
Being a woman-it is a complex and beautiful thing. Women have the unique ability to inspire, nurture, and create change. Our emotional and social intelligence is unparalleled. We can and have changed the world.
