No! But our vulvas deserve attention, just like everywhere else on our bodies. Using water is just fine, but for women who's personal preference is to use intimate products as part of their daily cleansing routine, just like any other area the body. Many traditional shower gels upset the pH in the vulvo-vaginal area, and we believe you shouldn't need a separate wash for your intimate skin than the rest of your body when you can just use one. That's why we have created a natural, gentle and balanced range you can use safely on intimate skin and everywhere else on your body.
When we talk about intimate skin, we are referring to the vulva which is the outer (external) parts of the skin around your vagina which includes the clitoris and the labia. The vagina is the inner canal inside your body and is self cleaning, avoid putting any product in this area as it can lead to many problems. But the vulva, aka the area just outside of your vagina which includes the clitoris and the labia does not have a self-cleaning mechanism, so you can cleanse that area as you would any other part on your body after a particularly vigorous workout, hot day, if you're on your period or part of your usual daily wash routine.
Yes. Many shower gels and soaps contain harsh chemicals that irritate our intimate areas, but why should you have to use a separate feminine hygiene wash for your intimate areas? Why not just one product everywhere? We've worked with dermatologists and gynaecologists to create one product that is for intimate skin and everywhere else on your body. All our products are pH balanced, soap-free, and contain only natural and necessary ingredients suitable for sensitive skin.
When we talk about intimate skin, we are referring to the vulva which is the outer (external) parts of the skin around your vagina which includes the clitoris and the labia. The vagina is the inner canal inside your body and is self cleaning, avoid putting any product in this area as it can lead to many problems. We recommend using a product that is pH balanced, soap free and gentle on intimate skin and everywhere else on your body such as The Everywhere Wash or Everywhere No-Soap Bar. To wash this area, massage a small amount of product into damp skin on the vulva (external part of your intimate skin) and rinse with warm water. Ensure you apply to the external skin only when washing and stop using the product immediately if any irritation occurs.
pH stands for ‘potential hydrogen’ and refers to the acid-basic ratio of a substance. There is a 0-14 scale denoting if something is alkaline (with high pH) or acidic (low pH). The middle, 7, is neutral, and anything less than that increases in acidity, whereas anything above it increases in alkalinity. Vulva pH could be expected to fall between values for the skin (estimated at pH 4.7) and the vagina (average pH 3.5), but can range from 3.8 to 4.2 during the menstrual cycle. Various factors may affect vulvar pH, including. humidity, sweat, vaginal discharge, menstruation, urine, genetics, and age) and other factors including use of soap, detergents and certain products not balanced for intimate skin. An acidic vaginal environment is protective. It creates a barrier that prevents unhealthy bacteria and yeast from multiplying too quickly and causing infection. A high vaginal pH level — above 4.5 — provides the perfect environment for unhealthy bacteria to grow. Having a high vaginal pH puts you at risk of infections and irritation and can be triggered by harsh washes or chemicals entering into your vagina.
